Chandan Yatra 2026
Chandan Yatra at Jagannath Mandir, Thyagraj Nagar, New Delhi
Chandan Yatra is one of the most beautiful and spiritually meaningful festivals associated with Lord Jagannath. Celebrated during the summer season, this sacred ritual reflects devotion, service, and the deep connection between the devotee and the divine. At Shri Jagannath Mandir, Chandan Yatra is observed with great श्रद्धा (devotion) and traditional practices inspired by the famous Jagannath Temple of Puri.
The word “Chandan” means sandalwood, and during this festival, a special sandalwood paste is applied to the deities. This ritual symbolizes offering comfort and cooling relief to the Lord during the hot summer months. More than just a tradition, it represents प्रेम (love), सेवा (service), and समर्पण (surrender) towards God.
Each evening during the festival, the temple comes alive with divine energy. Devotees gather to witness the beautifully adorned deities, participate in aarti, and immerse themselves in bhajans and kirtan. The atmosphere becomes peaceful, devotional, and spiritually uplifting, allowing visitors to experience a sense of inner calm and connection.
Chandan Yatra is not only about rituals, but also about learning important life values. It teaches us the importance of selfless service, compassion, and humility. Just as sandalwood cools and soothes, this festival reminds us to bring peace and positivity into the lives of others.
A special highlight during this period is the celebration of Narasimha Jayanti, marking the appearance of Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This day symbolizes the victory of righteousness over evil and reinforces faith in divine protection.
This festival also marks the beginning of preparations for the grand Rath Yatra. Devotees eagerly look forward to the upcoming celebration, which is one of the biggest spiritual events at the temple. This year’s Rath Yatra is especially significant as it will be the 59th celebration, and for the first time in Delhi, three grand chariots will be prepared for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra.
Chandan Yatra offers a unique opportunity for devotees to become part of this sacred journey. Whether through participation, service, or contribution, every act performed during this time is considered highly auspicious.
All devotees are warmly invited to visit the temple, experience the divine celebrations, and seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath. It is not just a festival—it is a spiritual experience that brings peace, devotion, and joy to life.
🙏 Jai Jagannath
