A Grand Celebration of India’s Classical and Folk Dance Traditions

The fifth day of Niladri Mahotsav 2026, held on 21 July 2026 at Shri Thyagraj Jagannath Mandir, New Delhi, brought together the vibrant traditions of Indian classical and folk dance through a captivating cultural programme. The evening featured three distinctive performances representing the rich artistic diversity of India. The programme began with a 30-minute presentation by Natraj Nritya Sadhana Kendra, Assam, showcasing Sattriya classical dance and Bihu folk dance under the guidance of Nikita Thakuria. The performance beautifully represented Assam’s spiritual and folk traditions, bringing the cultural colours of the Northeast to the Niladri Mahotsav stage. This was followed by a 30-minute Kuchipudi performance by Suramya, Delhi, presented under the mentorship of Guru Meenu Thakur.

Celebrating India’s Diverse Classical Dance Heritage

With graceful movements, expressive storytelling and intricate classical technique, the Kuchipudi performance highlighted the beauty and devotional character of the tradition. The evening continued with another 30-minute performance by Nrityam Madhuram, Delhi, presenting Bharatanatyam under the guidance of Shreya Guha Mazumdar. The powerful expressions, rhythmic movements and disciplined choreography added another dimension to the cultural evening. Together, Sattriya, Bihu, Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam created a vibrant showcase of India’s diverse artistic heritage, bringing different regions and traditions together in one celebration of devotion and culture.
