On the evening of Bata Osha, the temple transforms into a serene spiritual space glowing with diyas, temple bells, bhajans, and the divine presence of Mahaprabhu Jagannath.

🌿 What is Bata Osha?

“Bata Osha” is an ancient Odia festival deeply rooted in devotion.
The word Bata means banyan tree (ବଟ ଗଛ) and Osha means a fasting ritual or vrata. Traditionally, women observe this fast under a banyan tree, offering prayers to Maa Bata Mangala, Maa Durga, and Lord Jagannath for protection from dangers and for the long life of their children and family members.

In Odia homes, the belief is simple yet powerful:
“ବଟ ଓଷା କରିଲେ ଭଗବାନଙ୍କ କୃପା, ପରିବାରରେ ଶାନ୍ତି ଓ ସୁଖ ମିଳେ।”

The festival comes from ancient stories where a mother’s deep devotion and her observance of Bata Osha saved her child from grave danger during travel. Since then, women perform this vrat for:
